We provide emergency assistance and protect people’s rights in the world’s most challenging crises. Our scale and expertise mean we can reach and assist millions in areas where others cannot. Humanitarian principles are at the core of our mission.
Our goal is self-reliance for the people we work with. We are a courageous advocate for displaced people. We enable others through partnership, and contribute to lasting global solutions.
Together, we save lives and rebuild futures.

We provide emergency assistance and protect people’s rights
We started our relief efforts after World War Two. Today, we work in both new and protracted crises around the world. We specialise in six main areas: food security, shelter, legal assistance, education, protection from violence, and water, sanitation and hygiene.

We assist millions in areas that others cannot reach
In 2024, our 15,000 aid workers helped over 9 million people across 40 countries. Most of us are hired locally to work in the field, while a small number are based at our head office in Oslo. Many of our staff were once themselves forced to flee their homes.

We are a courageous advocate for displaced people
We promote and defend displaced people’s rights and dignity in local communities, with national governments and in the international arena. Our Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre in Geneva is a global leader in monitoring, reporting on and advocating for people displaced within their own country.

We enable others through partnership
We collaborate with private sector organisations, academia, local institutions and authorities, as well as other NGOs. Through NORCAP, our global provider of humanitarian, development and peacebuilding expertise, we work to improve aid to better protect and empower people affected by crisis and climate change.
