Conflict, displacement, climate change, and discriminatory customary practices continue to limit women’s ability to access, use, inherit, and control land, undermining livelihoods, food security, and long-term resilience. Despite a legal framework that formally protects women’s land rights, many displaced women remain excluded from decision-making processes and lack secure tenure arrangements.
In this new report, “Secure Land, Secure Futures: Closing the Gender Gap in Displacement Contexts in Mali,” NRC highlights the barriers faced by displaced women in accessing land and property rights, while showcasing practical solutions and field-based approaches implemented through NRC’s Information, Counselling and Legal Assistance program. Drawing on legal assistance services and support to local land governance systems, the report demonstrates how strengthening women’s land rights can contribute to protection, economic resilience, social cohesion, and durable solutions for displacement-affected communities in Mali.
