Statement on the killing of NRC staff member in Mogadishu, Somalia

Published 01. Feb 2021
The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) deeply regrets to confirm that we lost one of our colleagues in NRC Somalia during yesterday’s indiscriminate attacks in Mogadishu.

“I am heartbroken and deeply saddened by this tragic loss of valued colleague and friend, Muse Abdi Ahmed. The entire global NRC-family is mourning. The attack is another cruel reminder of the absolutely unacceptable violence engulfing unarmed and neutral humanitarian workers in too many conflicts around the world,” said Secretary General Jan Egeland.

Muse was a highly valued, respected and well-liked member of the NRC family. He joined NRC on 1 February 2011 making him one of the long serving staff in NRC Somaliland. Muse had been working as the Finance Coordinator for NRC Somaliland Area Office and was known to be hardworking, polite, supportive, kind and compassionate. He leaves behind a wife and 3 young children - 2 daughters and a son.

Muse will be missed dearly by the NRC team in Somalia and the entire organisation. NRC sends our heartfelt condolences to his family and to the family and friends of all those affected by the attacks.
