Syrians say: “Not another year of war”

We asked civilians inside Syria share their thoughts with us, as we mark seven long years of conflict in the country. Their words ring clear: “Not another year of war in Syria.”

March 15 marked the anniversary of the conflict in Syria. After seven years, the numbers tell a dramatic story: 5.6 million people have fled the country, 6.1 million Syrians are internally displaced, and 13.1 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance.

Not another year of being deprived of our schools. Not another year of more of us becoming orphans. Not another year where we witness the death of our beloved relatives and neighbours.

The video #NotAnotherYear captures the harsh reality of Syrians trapped in displacement, the challenges they face daily, the loss of childhood and the physical destruction surrounding them.

“We’re starving and thirsty,” a Syrian man by the name of Mohammad Fadil Alkhdr says in the video; “We’ve lost our homes and wealth.” Others recount how there are no jobs, livelihoods or education opportunities: “All people are in a state of utter destitution,” says Eyda Al Fadil.

Seven years of conflict has pushed Syrians to the limits of their resilience, it has denied thousands of children an education, and has torn apart far too many families. Our message is this: #NotAnotherYear of conflict inside Syria.
