5 ways you can help

Published 01. Sep 2016
After nearly 6 years of war inside Syria, millions of people are in urgent need of aid and protection. Here are five ways you can help:

1. Start your own fundraiser in social media!

2. Support the work for people forced to flee war and conflict. The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC), UN and other organisations are working around the clock in Syria and its neighbouring countries to provide help to those displaced. You can contribute to this work by making a donation online.

3. Use your voice in social media! Spread information and speak up – for example in support of NRC and other humanitarian organisations’ work in Syria and the neighbouring countries.

4. Be engaged! Contribute to a good integration for refugees where you live.

5. Talk positively! Participate in the political debate, either in the media, in your local community or among your friends. Contribute to increase peoples’ understanding of the rights and resources of refugees.

More people want to contribute

Last autumn, NRC experienced an increased wish among people to support our work and do something for refugees coming to Europe, and many continue to give.

“Last autumn, we saw a sharp increase in requests from people wishing to contribute, and we see that people continue to give, says NRC’s Head of External Relations, Harriet Rudd.

“We have more regular donors now than ever before, and this makes us able to reach even more displaced people with lifesaving help such as food, water and a roof over their head, says Rudd.

People contact NRC by phone, email and through social media. According to Rudd, many express that they are strongly engaged about the cause, and that they are upset on behalf of the refugees.

“What is great, is that people wish to support our aid work in the war-torn areas where the refugees come from, in addition to support the refugees who have reached Europe. People understand that to be able to handle this crisis, we need to do both, says Rudd.

NRC supports people displaced by war and conflict in the world’s worst crises. Today, more than 65 million people worldwide are displaced by war and conflict. NRC runs huge humanitarian aid projects in Syria and its neighbouring countries, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey.

“We are now working in Europe as well. The situation is serious and the many human tragedies that follow make a deep impression on us, just like on everybody else,” says Harriet Rudd.

“At the same time, it warms our heart to see that so many people are engaged and contribute to help refugees,” says Rudd.
