During NRC’s visit to Doha, NRC’s Jordan Country Director also signed a grant agreement totalling 1.3 million USD directed to promoting access to education for 3,550 Syrian refugee children and youth living in refugee camps and host communities in Jordan.
“NRC’s comprehensive education approach ensures that Syrian refugee children and youth have access to quality education in a protective environment. NRC’s activities combine formal educational approaches with life-skills training and recreational activities to empower the children and youth, create space for personal development and foster a culture of trust and respect,” said NRC Jordan Country Director, Petr Kostohryz.
- The project is co-funded with the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (NMFA).
- The objectives of the project are to support the Government of Jordan in facilitating transition of out-of-school children to formal education and strengthen youth engagement and empowerment, and foster social cohesion in Jordanian communities.
- In total 3,550 Syrian children and youth will benefit throughout the one-year duration of the project.
- Inclusive education is one of the key focuses of the project to ensure that Syrian refugee children and youth with physical or learning disabilities can learn and access NRC education activities.
- Parent, teacher and community involvement are key project components to ensure participatory approaches and sustainability of activities.
