Update on Birth Administration for Refugees from Syria

NRC|Published 15. Jan 2014
This paper summarises the Norwegian Refugee Council’s (NRC) continued birth registration work for Syrian refugees, built on the initial pilot project conducted in early 2013 in Bekaa, Lebanon.

The pilot project aimed to provide information, counselling and legal assistance regarding birth registration to Syrian refugees; identify gaps and obstacles faced by refugees in birth registration in Lebanon; and determine whether similar NRC services should be provided in other areas. This update presents the results of pilot cases, changes in birth registration procedures, and NRC’s plans for future work on this topic.
