This background report deals with issues arising from the Wall built by Israel since 2002 in the occupied Palestinian territory. It discusses the negative impact of the Wall on the life of Palestinians and their protected rights.

It further examining the question of its legality, analysing the conflicting decisions of the International Court of Justice and the Israeli Supreme Court. In addition to three case studies, the potential involvement of the international community in protecting Palestinian human rights is discussed.
