Africa stands at the forefront of the global climate crisis, facing escalating extreme weather events that threaten hard-won development gains. The record-breaking temperatures of 2024 underscore the urgent need to strengthen climate services for evidence-based adaptation, disaster risk reduction and resilience building.

This report evaluates the state of climate services in Africa, identifying progress, gaps and emerging priorities. It focuses on improving the availability, accessibility and useability of climate information to support effective risk-informed decision-making.

The report makes a number of recommendations, including strengthening the capacity and funding of national meteorological and hydrological services and regional climate centres, increasing local authorities’ communities’ and users’ engagement and involvement in developing platforms and services and supporting African nations in integrating climate services into strategies and sectoral plans.
