Palestinian refugees' right to inherit under the 2001 amendment law

Published 20. Jan 2016
The 2001 Amendment Law has been widely interpreted as the effective prohibition of Palestinian refugees from having any kind of real estate rights in Lebanon, including through inheritance. Based on this interpretation Palestinian refugees fear that the religious endowments known as “Awkaf” or the state may take the property they are unable to inherit.

This report presents first, the legal framework, second, new possible interpretations of the 2001 Amendment Law and the steps taken by NRC and the NRC beneficiary before court, and third, the recommendations for next steps.
