NRC partnership with CMS Kluge helps more people access rights

The Norwegian law firm CMS Kluge has assisted the legal team at Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) since 2012 and has become one of our most important corporate partners. In 2021 this partnership was extended by another three years.

This cooperation includes the exchange of competence, knowledge, and legal assistance in major projects. Our agreement includes the expansion of both financial and professional support including a new initiative: the secondment of a lawyer to work from NRC’s head office.

The extension of the partnership paves the way for our organisations to work together on larger, time-consuming and comprehensive projects.

One of the most important projects is helping displaced people who are often deprived of their rights.

"Over the years the partnership with NRC has become an important part of our identity," says Mahrukh Mahmood, a lawyer at CMS Kluge who is currently seconded to NRC. “It also provides us, as lawyers, the opportunity to work with challenging legal questions.”

In recent years, CMS Kluge has helped us shape an ethical framework used by our lawyers who provide legal counselling for refugees and displaced people in the countries where we work.

"With CMS Kluge’s support, NRC becomes more professional and efficient," says Jan Egeland, Secretary General, NRC.

In recent years, Kluge has provided financial support for many of our campaigns concerning the rights of children displaced by war and conflict.

"Their goodwill and active involvement is exemplary. CMS Kluge is a good example of a company that exercises corporate social responsibility in practice," says Egeland.
