False allegations endanger humanitarian workers in Sudan

The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) categorically denies a fabricated report being circulated on social media that falsely alleges our involvement in smuggling weapons or supporting parties to the conflict in Darfur. These baseless claims not only misrepresent NRC’s mission but also recklessly endanger the lives of our humanitarian colleagues working in some of Sudan’s most challenging environments.

NRC’s work in Sudan is grounded in strict adherence to humanitarian principles of neutrality, impartiality, and independence. Our sole mission remains delivering lifesaving assistance to the millions of people facing urgent, unprecedented needs amid the current crisis.

We have formally protested to the media outlet regarding the defamation it is perpetuating and are considering all options to safeguard our reputation and that of our staff, including legal action.

We call on all stakeholders to respect the vital role of humanitarian organisations and to refrain from spreading misinformation that jeopardises the safety of aid workers and threatens the delivery of essential support to vulnerable communities.
