Using art as therapy
On Friday 14 June NRC hosted a private art exhibition together with our long-term partner Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and their engaged employees. A total of 29 unique artworks were displayed at BCG’s new premises in Oslo, Norway and were auctioned off by the end of the evening. The displayed pieces were all created during the NRC education project “Colours in Displacement”, carried out in 2015. More than 400 displaced Afghan children in Iran and Afghanistan participated in the project - that aimed to use art as therapy to help them overcome personal challenges caused by life in displacement.
Raising awareness for children in displacement
Our mutual goal for the event was to raise awareness about the challenges displaced children face every day and raise funds for NRC’s education programmes that could be used for similar purposes like the art project. The exhibition was open for BCG’s employees and their clients as well as NRC staff and partners. NRC’s Education Specialist in NRC Iran, Reem Shammout and CEO of partnering organisation CREART, Chené Gomez were both present at the event and shared stories from the displaced Afghan children and learnings from the art project.
Ended with an auction
The exhibition ended with an auction engaging both the youngest bidders and the busiest staff. It was an eventful afternoon and the people attending the exhibition showed great interest in the displayed pieces, as all the competitive bids reflects.
We would like to express our gratitude to BCG and their employees for their generosity and engagement in the cause. The fundraised amount will go directly back to NRC’s education programmes, helping us assist the children in displacement with educational support.
