Statement on airstrike on camp for displaced people in Borno, Nigeria

Published 18. Jan 2017
18 January 2017: The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) strongly condemns yesterday’s indiscriminate attack on a displacement camp in Rann, northeastern Nigeria, where hundreds of people were sheltering from insecurity in Borno State.

NRC’s thoughts are with the families of the Nigerians tragically killed in the attack, and for the aid workers who were injured.

“Displacement camps are supposed to be safe havens for people fleeing war and conflict. It cannot become the new normal that ‘accidental’ attacks on camps sheltering the innocent are allowed to happen again and again in conflict zones,” said NRC’s Secretary General, Jan Egeland.
