The event, Dubai International Humanitarian Aid & Development Conference & Exhibition (DIHAD), is the largest event of its kind to take place in the Gulf region. It is attended by key decision makers, humanitarian organisations and governmental and non-governmental bodies.
NRC Gulf Director Mario Stephan was invited to speak in one of the panel debates. Stephan focused on the provision of humanitarian assistance in today’s crisis environment.
"NGO’s are not adapting fast enough to today’s crisis environment", Stephan pointed out.
Further, Alfredo Zamudio, Director of NRC’s Internally Displacement Monitoring Centre’s (IDMC) spoke at DIHAD on displacement and climate change, while IDMC analyst Guillaume Charron spoke about displacement trends and emerging challenges in the Arab World.
The event provides a unique platform for NRC to discuss, exchange and raise awareness on key issues in the humanitarian sector. 2015 marks NRC’s participation on DIHAD for the fifth year in a row.
"DIHAD is great opportunity for NRC to form and maintain partnerships with key international, multilateral and regional entities. These partnerships are important to strengthen and develop our work for displaced people worldwide", Stephan says.
