People fleeing from conflict and sudden onset disasters are often vulnerable, as their basic rights, security and lives are in danger. NORCAP experts work to ensure effective protection of affected girls, boys, women and men during all phases of a crisis.

By deploying experts on protection, child protection, gender based violence and gender, NORCAP contributes to more effective and better-coordinated protection efforts on the ground. Experts in the NORCAP roster and thematic rosters ProCap and GenCap, provide analysis of needs, conflict drivers and patterns of displacement as well as develop scenarios for early warning.

They also contribute to linking emergency support and longer term programming for vulnerable communities in crisis. Providing emergency help to those affected by crisis is often the first step towards long-term protection and rehabilitation.

Field example

ProCap experts have developed protection tools and training packages for humanitarians working in Syria and South Sudan. These tools have been adapted to other emergency operations, contributing to a more coordinated use of protection indicators. The result is a more effective and appropriate assistance to displaced populations in insecure environments.
