Climate action

Climate change is causing extreme weather events like heatwaves, flooding and drought to become more frequent. Displaced people and other vulnerable communities are responsible for only a fraction of global greenhouse gas emissions. Yet it is they who are most exposed to the impacts of extreme weather.

The Norwegian Refugee Council, NORCAP and the Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre are attending the 2023 UN Climate Change Conference in Dubai. We are urging decision-makers to do more to help displaced people deal with the consequences of the climate crisis.

Generation of clean energy

Imagine having to walk to school in the dark in a landscape populated by dangerous snakes and scorpions. That’s been the reality for Jelila and other school children at the Kakuma and Kalobeyei settlements in Kenya.

But that’s about to change. Jelila’s school is one of 31 in the community that will be powered by solar energy, with the help of UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency and NORCAP. Watch this video to see how:
