About the Camp Management Project
Tip a friendPrint
The Camp Management Project began in Sierra Leone in late 2002, as a response to the inadequate quality of assistance and protection in many of the country’s camps for displaced persons.
An Inter-Agency Working Group on Camp Management in Sierra Leone was established with the aim to enhance camp management practice through mapping the roles and responsibilities of Camp Management Agencies and partners, reviewing lessons learned and identifying good practice.

The Camp Management Project first published the Camp Management Toolkit in 2004, and has subsequently developed and translated the 2008 edition.

Since 2004, the Toolkit has been actively used in the field. As a result of the advocacy and awareness raising that has already taken place, several hundred individuals and organizations have downloaded the Toolkit from the NRC website. Among them are individuals from UN agencies, international organizations, local and international NGOs, universities and research institutions, governments.

Countries where the Toolkit has been actively used include: Liberia, Sudan, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Burundi, Uganda, Indonesia, East Timor, Georgia, Lebanon, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Chad, Nepal and Ethiopia.
