Shelter

The situations from which refugees and IDPs flee are often acute. Millions of people flee for their lives, without possessions or places to go.

Refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs) have a need for shelter during their displacement. The Norwegian Refugee Council assists in providing shelter and protection from violence, whether in a camp or other temporary living quarters. However, it is just as important to provide long term solutions. We therefore build permanent housing for refugees and internally displaced persons who often return to find their homes destroyed or occupied.

The Norwegian Refugee Council also takes responsibility for the building and  reconstruction of school buildings where there is a lack of local schools or where the schools do not have the resources to take on large groups of new students.
