A situation that involves a conflict or natural disaster often affects the population’s access to food and water.
Conflict, with its associated collapse of social, political and economic systems, is a major cause of food insecurity for households. Agricultural production is disrupted, employment opportunities are decreased and livelihoods assets are looted or destroyed. Consistent with saving lives and curbing malnutrition, the overall objective of this core activity is to support the food security and livelihoods of people affected by displacement.
The primary activities supported by this core activity include food distribution, non-food item distribution (kitchen sets, hygiene kits, jerry cans), food for education (school feeding and take home rations) and livelihoods.
Activities aim to be responsive to: gender, by taking cognisance of the different needs and priorities of men, women, boys and girls; environmental changes, by supporting positive local adaptation strategies and offering alternatives to negative strategies; and protection by promoting the right to food.
